Using the VMware Tools Control Panel
The VMware Tools control panel is organized in a set of tabs:
• The Options tab, where you can choose to:
• Synchronize the time between your virtual machine and the host operating system. For more information, see Setting VMware Tools Options.
• The Devices tab, where you can connect or disconnect removable devices (such as floppy and CD-ROM drives) to or from your virtual machine. For more information, see Connecting Virtual Devices.
• The Scripts tab, where you can configure which scripts run when you suspend, resume, shut down, power on, or restart a virtual machine. For more information, see Using Scripts.
• The Shrink tab, where you can reduce the amount of space the virtual disk occupies on the host operating system. For more information, see Shrinking Virtual Disks.
• The About tab, where you can view VMware Tools version and copyright information, and the status of the VMware Tools service. Displaying the VMware Tools Control Panel
In a Linux, FreeBSD, or Solaris guest operating system, the VMware Tools control panel is called vmware-toolbox. You can launch it manually as a background process from a terminal by entering:
With some window managers, you can place the command to start VMware Tools in a startup configuration so VMware Tools starts automatically when you start your graphical environment. Consult your window manager’s documentation for details.
In a NetWare 5.1 or higher guest operating system, you can access the VMware Tools control panel by choosing Novell > Settings > VMware Tools for NetWare.
In a NetWare 4.2 guest operating system, you can use VMware Tools commands in the system console. The VMware Tools program is called vmwtool. For information about using this command, see the section about vmwtool in the documentation for your VMware product, or enter the following command in the system console:
